Quase toda mitologia lida com seres que não são humanos. Existem também deuses, gigantes e outras figuras na mitologia nórdica e germânica. Ao contrário do Deus único no cristianismo, no entanto, os deuses nórdicos não são infalíveis ou o bem absoluto.

- No começo, havia o Urchaos Gnungagap e o Urkuh Audhumbla. Então, a geração mais antiga de deuses nasce dos gigantes, que ameaçam destruir os existentes imediatamente.
- Os Wanen e Asen são criados para parar os Jötunn e vencem a luta. Odir, Hönir e Loki venceram o grande gigante Ýmir.
- Por exemplo, os deuses criam a conhecida árvore da vida, Yggdrasil, a partir dos restos do gigante antigo, e o oceano é criado a partir de seu sangue.
- Odin também cria o primeiro homem Ask e a primeira mulher Embla. Portanto, todos os Ases e todos os humanos descendem de Odin.

Mitologia nórdica na cultura moderna

Termos, figuras e lendas da mitologia nórdica e germânica aparecem em diferentes mídias. Enquanto as bandas escandinavas, em particular, costumam aderir à reprodução mais fiel e, acima de tudo, autêntica da mitologia, outras mídias, como quadrinhos e jogos, interpretam os deuses e suas histórias de uma nova maneira.
- A partir de 2011, a série de filmes da Marvel "Thor" lida com o deus de mesmo nome. Loki e outros deuses também desempenham um papel crucial aqui.
